The case against a Queensland influencer who allegedly tortured her baby girl for social media benefit has been delayed due to the number of doctors the prosecution expects to consult, a court has heard.
The 34-year-old, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is charged with five counts of administering poison with intent to harm, three counts of preparation to commit crimes with dangerous things, and one count each of torture, making child exploitation material and fraud.
Police allege the woman continued to administer medicine to the child, who suffered from tuberous sclerosis, after doctors had called for it to be ceased.
Police allege the woman’s social media was the motive for the alleged offending, accusing her of obtaining a financial benefit.
The charge of making child exploitation material relates to a video on the woman’s phone police allege captured her daughter unconscious, it is not sexual in nature as is typically the case with this offence.
The case was mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court which heard the brief of evidence could take longer to compile than usual.
“I expect with the amount of doctors that could be required to provide statements, it may take a little bit extra time,” police prosecutor Sgt Jane MacDonald said.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Anthony Gett ordered the brief of evidence to be made available to the woman’s lawyer Mathew Cuskelly in seven weeks.
The matter was adjourned to April 28.
The woman, who was not required to attend, remains on bail.
