A Brisbane GP and cosmetic doctor has been banned from treating women by the healthcare watchdog.

Venkata Ramesh Nandamuri, 49, who has been practising from Upper Kedron Medical Centre in Brisbane’s outer north-western suburbs, was the target of immediate registration action by the state’s health watchdog effective from November 14, an announcement states.

He focuses on skin cancer medicine and cosmetic procedures and has worked in various skin cancer clinics and emergency departments, his online profile states.

The Health Ombudsman has banned Dr Nandamuri from contact with female patients and states that he must take all reasonable steps to ensure women are told at the time of wanting to book an appointment with the practitioner that they cannot.

He must not provide this information to patients personally and instead must have a receptionist or other worker inform them.

He worked as a GP in Moore Park Beach north of Bundaberg until 2016, and also opened a cosmetic clinic in Brendale, in Brisbane’s north, offering anti-wrinkle treatments.

He was first registered in the profession in 2007, according to the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency website.

He graduated from medicine at the NTR University of Health Sciences in India in 2001 and owns homes in Bridgeman Downs and Everton Park, property records state.

The regulator did not reveal details on why it has taken action against him.

The immediate registration action is a temporary measure taken by the regulator and it can only be removed by the health ombudsman or by application to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

The Courier-Mail contacted Upper Kedron Medical Centre for comment, and they said he is on leave until December 8.
