Oxford & Hants Corner Store owner Mark knew both women well as they regularly went to his shop at the end of the street.

“This morning I knew something bad had happened when I saw more cars and officers run to the unit,” he told The Courier-Mail.

The pair were neighbours in the unit block which sits in the affluent suburb of Hamilton.

According to QPS data, the suburb has only recorded one other homicide in the last five years.

The unit block sits on a street of million-dollar homes, including some which have sold for as much as $1.7 million in the last few years.

The victim was understood to be living with her teenage daughter. It’s not clear whether she was home at the time of the stabbing.

Mark said both women were well known in the street and had been living in the complex for about eight years.

He said the victim was a nice woman.

“It’s just a tragedy, especially this close to Christmas.”

Neighbour Yolanta Edwards said she has lived in the area near the unit complex for 40 years.

Her and her son, Trevor, said they had witnessed arguments between the two women multiple times.

“Not physically but verbally, like yelling at each other,” said Trevor.

“It’s just been ongoing arguments.”

One of the women, believed to be the one assisting police, was well known to neighbours, according to Ms Edwards.

“Mark in the shop up the street here has been so good to her, he’s been really good,” she said.

“Two lovely daughters, a husband who really cared for her and look at the tragedy … It’s very very sad.”

It’s believed the woman with police has two daughters who did not live with her.
