Gold Coast father pleads for meth addict daughter to be kept behind bars

A man who called for his serial criminal daughter to be locked up for the safety of the community says she has again been released by the courts despite committing more offences while on parole.

A fed-up father who called for his serial criminal daughter to be locked up for the safety of the community has pleaded with the new LNP government to do something after she was released by the courts again last week despite committing more offences.

The man, who is a respected Gold Coast identity, spoke out in October about Queensland’s “revolving door” justice system which has continually allowed his meth-addicted daughter back on the streets to commit more crimes.

The young mother-of-two, who is on parole until next year, has been arrested multiple times this year for offences including car stealing, disqualified driving and drug possession.

She was rearrested last week after again being released on parole, despite a desperate letter her dad wrote to the Parole Board in October - before the state election - begging for her to be kept behind bars.

“It should never get to a position where a father of a 31-year-old has to force the system to incarcerate his daughter,” he said in the letter.

“It is farcical that a system supposedly in place to protect the parolee, hold them to account, and provide protection to the wider community whose homes and vehicles are being rampaged by offenders like my daughter.

“My grave concern is that … her offences will continue or worse, a family will be killed after a stolen vehicle driven by a known offender high on ice strikes their car at breakneck speeds.

“Then, the media will rightly ask: why didn’t someone do something about this?”

The father told The Courier-Mail he thought his daughter’s parole had been revoked after her October offending but after pleading guilty to a string of offences including flouting a court-ordered, five-year driving ban, she was back out on the streets.

Police hunting a notorious male criminal arrested her again last week and charged her with offences including concealing drugs inside her body and failing to sign in to parole.

She pleaded guilty and was again released by the courts, despite having previously received a suspended sentence and return to prison warrants.

In a letter written out of “sheer frustration” this week to Attorney-General Deb Frecklington’s office, her father accused the Probation and Parole office of failing to protect the community and ensuring parolees were held accountable.

He said that instead of immediately revoking his daughter’s parole, the office had given her 30 days to show cause why she should not go to jail.

“I would have thought repeated recidivist behaviour was sufficient evidence,” the father said in the letter.

“So to be clear, she is again in the community … no doubt reoffending.”

He said police had expressed to him their “complete frustration” at the parole office “which appears to use clients like my daughter as a social experiment … all the while leaving the community at risk of being victims of crime”.

“As I have strongly suggested to Southport Parole: will it take my daughter killing someone, or herself, for the offending to end?” he said in the letter.

“The lead policy of the LNP was to reduce offending and I applaud you for that commitment yet (the) actions (of the Parole office) actually create dozens of further offences until people like my daughter are finally held in prison and given time, and clarity, to sober up.”
