A Brisbane man who allegedly stabbed a visitor in the chest with a knife following a heated argument at a house in Brisbane’s north has fronted court.

Gary Ian Draper, 33, appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday over an alleged violent fight that police say allegedly broke out at a Zillmere property just after 8pm on Monday night.

Police allege a 25-year-old Moorooka man was visiting Mr Draper at an address on Tolmie St when the pair got into a verbal dispute.

The court heard the ordinary dispute escalated when Mr Draper, who has a mild intellectual disability, got “angrier and angrier” leading to the alleged stabbing.

The alleged victim fled on foot to a nearby park.

Critical care paramedics later took the man to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Magistrate Elizabeth Hall said the alleged victim suffered “intense pain” and may have ongoing problems.

Ms Hall granted Mr Draper bail on several conditions including that he report to police and not contact the alleged victim.

The matter was adjourned to later this year.
