Former Qld minister Trevor John Perrett charged with indecent treatment of young girls

A former Queensland MP and minister has sensationally been charged with multiple counts of indecent treatment of girls under 16 over a two-year period in several towns across the state.

A former Queensland MP and minister has sensationally been charged with the indecent treatment of young girls.

Trevor John Perrett, now 79, has been slapped with 25 charges including eight counts of indecent treatment of girls under 16, and 16 offences of indecent treatment of girls under 17.

The offences were allegedly committed between December 31, 1974, and January 1, 1977.

It is understood the allegations relate to one victim.

The Courier-Mail understands the Townsville Child Protection Investigation Unit has led the investigation following the accusations.

It’s understood the offences took place in several Queensland towns, including Brisbane and Toowoomba.

Perrett was the Nationals member for Barambah from 1988-98.

He was the minister for primary industries, fisheries and forestry from 1996-98 in the government of premier Rob Borbidge.

His run as an MP ended when he was defeated by One Nation candidate Dorothy Pratt at the 1998 state election.

Perrett is due to face Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on Monday.
