A former prison officer charged with drug trafficking sent decoys into towns before he drove through on drug runs between Rockhampton and Brisbane, it has been alleged in court.

Stephen Gary Crisp, 37, has been refused bail in Brisbane Supreme Court for a second time.

Justice Soraya Ryan said Crisp was allegedly involved in transporting large amounts of drugs from Rockhampton to Brisbane in seven to 14-day drug runs.

The judge said it was alleged he had obtained large amounts of methamphetamine to on-sell and used encrypted messaging mobile apps.

During his bail application, the judge said it was alleged Crisp had sent decoys into towns to check they were clear before he continued on drug runs.

On August 5, officers from Operation Tango Negative raided an address at Yeppoon, northeast of Rockhampton.

Justice Ryan said Crisp was found in possession of what was thought to be 1kg of methamphetamine, but was later analysed to be 264g of the drug.

He said Crisp also was found in possession of a loaded handgun and silencer, and he allegedly sold a shotgun as part of a deal.

Police had intercepted Crisp near Yeppoon after he travelled from Brisbane on August 5.

He was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon.

He also was charged with possessing dangerous drugs, unlawful possession of restricted drugs, possessing property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence, possession of a knife and other drug and weapon-related offences.

Crisp was refused bail by Supreme Court Justice David Boddice in August.

Justice Ryan said Crisp had since been charged with trafficking in large amounts of methamphetamine for commercial purposes.

Justice Ryan said since Crisp’s previous bail application there had been no material change of circumstances and there were still risks of him committing further offences or failing to appear if granted bail.

She said Crisp was facing 11 offences, with the charge of trafficking, between December 1 last year and August 6 the most serious.

She refused his bail application on Wednesday.
