A former Nomads bikie accused of stomping on a man’s head outside a Gold Coast bar during an allegedly unprovoked attack on four people, has been granted bail by the state’s top judge.

The 31-year-old is alleged to have assaulted the group of three men and a woman in a Burleigh Heads laneway near the Pink Monkey Bar and Grill about 11pm on July 3, in company with co-accused Luke Anthony Schmerse, 30.

He has been in custody on remand for two-and-a-half months.

“The offences with which (Pont) was charged are serious both in their nature but also the circumstances in which they are alleged to have been committed,” Chief Justice Bowskill said.

“(Pont) has a relevant and serious criminal history including for like offending and other offending involving violence, and there seems to be a pattern connecting that offending with consumption of alcohol,” Chief Justice Bowskill said.

Barrister Michael Copley KC told the court his client would agree to strict bail conditions including wearing an ankle bracelet GPS tracker.

Mr Copley told Chief Justice Bowskill that the “alleged assaults seem to have been done entirely at random - he doesn’t know these people”.

Crown Prosecutor Ryan Minuti told the court that the Crown did not oppose Pont’s release on bail but asked that he be banned from contacting his co-offender, Mr Schmerse, the victims and witnesses.

Chief Justice Bowskill agreed to grant Pont bail on “stringent conditions” including that he live with his mother and brothers, and be on a curfew between 8pm and 5am, allowing him to leave his home early to travel to construction sites in Brisbane.

He is banned from all licenced premises at any time, and also banned from going within 50m of a licenced premise between 6pm and 5am, and cannot drink alcohol or take drugs.

“A lot of his criminal history is connected to alcohol and drinking and it seems to occur on weekend nights, hence those conditions” Mr Copley told the court.

Pont is also required to contact BailSafe, an outpatient alcoholic treatment program and he is banned from interstate and international travel.

At his hearing in Southport Magistrates Court in August, Pont’s lawyer Andrew Owens said his client not longer had an association with the bikie gang.
