The man accused of murder in Fortitude Valley on Monday morning has been identified as Seyram Kwami Djentuh.
Djentuh had his case mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning.
He did not appear and there was no application for bail.
The matter was adjourned to August 8.
It comes after footage of the Fortitude Valley stabbing emerged online, showing a heated fight between two groups before a young man was killed early Monday morning.
In the footage, men from the two groups yell at each other inside the Valley Metro complex.
At one point a man holds out a weapon, and thrusts it in the air towards a man in the opposing group.
In a matter of seconds a second person from the group – Lauie Michael Tagaloa – is seen walking towards the same man holding the object.
The 24-year-old appears to be struck in the neck area and walks away from the groups before collapsing.
The men continued yelling at each other during the confrontation.
Police on Monday said witnesses and paramedics provided first aid to Mr Tagaloa about 4am however he died at the scene. Three men who fled the scene were detained by police.
Detectives charged a 20-year-old Birkdale man with murder Monday afternoon. He is expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Two other men, aged 21 and 20, who were assisting police have been released without charge.
“Police will allege an altercation occurred between two groups of men in a Brunswick Street mall at approximately 4am,” police said in a statement.
“The altercation allegedly continued inside a shopping complex off Brunswick Street.
“During this altercation, it is alleged the 24-year-old Bray Park man was fatally stabbed.”
The Courier-Mail understands the two groups of men did not know each other.
