A woman has been charged after she allegedly sent a series of bomb hoaxes to five childcare’s across Brisbane’s Bayside.
Police allege the woman sent a series of threatening messages to childcare centres and a primary school in the early hours of Thursday morning.
One of the childcare’s included C&K Thornlands Community Childcare Centre.
On Thursday morning they sent a letter to concerned parents saying they advised there had been an email stating there was a bomb outside the building.
“We took immediate action and contacted local police, and enacted the emergency lockdown procedure, maintaining a safe distance until police arrived,” the letter said.
“Officers from Cleveland Police Station have confirmed that the bomb threat is a hoax. They disclosed that letters have been recently left in several different locations.
“The police have assured us the building and surrounds are safe.”
This afternoon, detectives from the Bayside Criminal Investigation Branch charged a 50-year-old Cleveland woman with five counts of making a bomb hoax – falsely inform bomb present.
Police investigations concluded that the alleged threats were unsubstantiated, and that there was no risk to any children or the community.
Police allege the woman was not known to, or connected with the centres or school.
The woman is expected to front Cleveland Magistrate’s Court on June 5.
