The father of a rider who was killed in a motorbike crash north of Brisbane said his son was in a good place before his death and he had lost his “best mate forever”.
Dayne Lehmann, 26, was riding a bike, that police was stolen on September 26, when he lost control on Samsonvale Road at Bray Park just after midnight on Wednesday.
The Biggera Waters rider had only gotten out of jail 10 days before the crash, according to his Facebook page.
His father Jason Lehmann said in a heartfelt post that his son’s death had left him “heartbroken and empty”.
“A parent should not have to bury a child but here I am facing this moment in time,” he wrote.
“You left us too soon my big boy. Looking so much forward to the future living life together again. Just spoke to you and you were in the best place I have seen you in such a long time. “So proud of you and where you were heading.
“Now I’ve lost my best mate forever. Just want one last hug. Absolutely shattered.”
Dayne had just celebrated his 26th birthday in jail two weeks earlier, and in a birthday post his sister said she was excited for him to have a “fresh start”.
“It’s been a long 20 months without you, I fact it’s been a long 9-10 years in and out of lock up but you’re home in just a few days now,” Brooke Lehmann wrote on November 11.
“I wish nothing more than for you to enjoy the rest of your life out here with us doing positive things that are going to make you truly genuinely happy!”
In a heartbreaking post made after his death, Ms Lehman said she was devastated but glad she got to spend the past week with him.
“I don’t know how I’m going to get through this and I know it’s going to be a lifetime of heartache losing you my brother,” she wrote.
“This is truly the most horrible day of my life and I am going to miss you so much.”
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the crash and police would like to speak with another motorcyclist who was riding with Mr Lehmann at the time.
