A former Queensland Police Service worker faced court after he was allegedly caught shoplifting from a charity store and riding a bike without a helmet.

A former Queensland Police Service worker faced court today after he was allegedly caught shoplifting and riding a bike without a helmet.

Patrick John Fitzgerald, 41 was charged with one count of each, failing to wear a helmet on a bike and unauthorised dealing with shop goods.

According to court documents Mr Fitzgerald failed to wear an approved helmet that was securely fitted or fastened on Sandgate Rd, Virginia on Wednesday.

On the same day, he allegedly took less than $150 worth of goods from charity store Vinnies.

The not-for-profit sells pre-loved clothes and items at an affordable cost, aiming to help people in need or those experiencing poverty.

Mr Fitzgerald appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court today and was represented by Ngarangi Rangihuna from Phillips Crawford Lawyers.

Mr Rangihuna made an application for bail on Mr Fitzgerald’s behalf.

Acting Magistrate Leanne Scoines granted Mr Fitzgerald bail and adjourned the matter to June 29.

The Courier-Mail understands Mr Fitzgerald previously worked for the QPS as a civilian employee.
