A foundation run by the family of murdered Brisbane mum Hannah Clarke has expressed their heartbreak over the death of Petrie woman, Emily Thompson.

Small Steps 4 Hannah, an organisation set up after Ms Clarke and her three children were murdered by her ex in 2020, shared their condolences to Ms Thompson’s family to social media.

Police will allege Ms Thompson was killed by her ex, Aaron Mitchelson Huckel, in a park at Strathpine before her body was dumped in bushland at Nambour on Saturday.

Mitchelson Huckel has since been charged with her murder.

Ms Clarke’s mum and co-founder of Small Steps 4 Hannah, Sue Clarke, said she was devastated by Mr Thompson’s death.

“Emily’s death is an absolute tragedy and we feel deeply for the Thompson family,” Mrs Clarke said.

The foundation shared the tribute on Tuesday night alongside a photo of Ms Thompson.

“This beautiful young girl Emily Thompson lost her life on Saturday,” the post read.

The post has received thousands of likes and hundreds of comments from people paying tribute to the 18-year-old school student.

Small Steps 4 Hannah was started by Ms Clarke’s parents and aims to raise awareness about domestic violence.

Hannah and her children, Aaliyah, 6, Laianah, 4, and Trey, 3, were murdered by her estranged husband, Rowan Baxter, in February 2020.

Attorney-General and Women’s Minister Shannon Fentiman has paid tribute to Emily Thompson, 18, who was allegedly murdered by her former boyfriend last week.

Hannah Clarke, with her son Trey, 3, were murdered by her estranged husband alongside daughters Aaliyah, 6, and Laianah, 4.

But Ms Fentiman’s mention of the case drew a swift rebuke from the Opposition, which flagged it was against the rules to speak of a matter currently before the courts.

“(She) was described as smart, kind and loving, but tragically had her life cut short allegedly at the hands of her ex-boyfriend,” Ms Fentiman said.

“As I’ve said many times in this house, our government remains absolutely committed to eliminating all forms of violence against women.”
