Emergency declaration made after gas leak at water treatment plant north of Brisbane

A gas leak has caused an emergency declaration to be made by police north of Brisbane.

Multiple fire crews remain on scene after an exclusion zone was established at the site of a gas leak around a water treatment plant north of Brisbane.

An emergency declaration was made this afternoon under the Public Safety Preservation Act 250m around the facility on Byrnes Road and Portheroe Road in Joyner.

A statement from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said it was expected to be a protracted incident.

The fire crews remained on scene into the evening performing atmospheric testing.

Police have advised anyone around the facility to keep windows and doors shut and take advice from emergency services on the ground.

Paramedics remain on scene assisting fire crews and police, no one has required medical attention at this stage.
