A British man has been hit and killed by a car outside Harbour Town shopping centre on the Gold Coast.

A man has been hit and killed by a car at a major Gold Coast shopping centre.

Police said the 57-year-old British national had been crossing Oxley Drive near Harbour Town at Biggera Waters when he was struck by a white 2012 Holden Colorado dual-cab utility travelling south.

The 19-year-old driver, of Biggera Waters, stopped and rendered aid ahead of the arrival of emergency services, but the man died at the scene.

The police Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
