A young Queensland man who allegedly recorded and distributed child sex abuse material has made the “sign of the cross” while appearing in court via video from jail.

A young Mackay region man is accused by police of sexually abusing children under 12 and distributing disturbing footage to others.
Devante Lorenz K R Richardson, 24, appeared via video link in Proserpine Magistrates Court charged with 293 child sexual abuse related crimes.
Mr Richardson could be seen making the sign of the cross before Acting Magistrate Jennifer Batts asked him to confirm his identity.
Police allege Mr Richardson allegedly indecently treated children under 12 and made child exploitation material on two specific dates – one in 2021 and one in 2022.
They further allege the Sarina man distributed exploitation material on multiple occasions over a period of two and a half years.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service solicitor Phillip Moore said he had just been provided with the full list of charges by the prosecution and asked for the case to be adjourned for a month.
There was no bail application and Mr Richardson was remanded in custody.
The case will return to court on November 27.
