Daniel Langanis pleads guilty to driving uninsured and unregistered vehicle

A social media influencer caught driving an unregistered Mercedes Benz in Brisbane while uninsured has told a court he feared the charges would be “quite a big hit” against his name.

A social media influencer caught driving an unregistered vehicle in Brisbane feared the charges would be “ quite a big hit against (his) name”.

Wishart’s Daniel Langanis pleaded guilty in Brisbane Magistrates Court today to driving an uninsured and unregistered vehicle.

The 21-year-old describes himself as an entrepreneur on Instagram where he has over 11,000 followers.

The court heard police intercepted Langanis driving his brother’s Mercedes Benz in Newstead on March 30.

The brother, who was a passenger, said it was his vehicle and it was registered to a business he owned for tax purposes, the court heard.

The car had been unregistered for 31 days and only uninsured for a single day.

Langanis, who was self-represented, told the court he had been picking up products for his brother on the day.

“So pretty much I was completely unaware that it was not insured or registered,” he said.

“It is like quite a big hit against my name, and obviously I was completely unaware. I wasn‘t trying to break any law.”

Langanis said the registration was meant to be handled by the company it was registered with.

“I’m kind of just like the one who cops everything, and I’m the least involved.”

Magistrate Shane Elliot said he would reduce the penalty given the circumstances.

“It’s certainly not as bad as say someone who’s just driving around, you know, knowingly without insurance and registration,” he said.

Langanis was fined $350 and no convictions were recorded.

Langanis was dealt with by a court last year for shoplifting which saw him placed on a good behaviour bond for six months.
