Cyclist killed after being hit by car near major shopping centre

A man has died after he was struck by a car while cycling near a Gold Coast shopping centre.

A cyclist has died after he was struck by a car while crossing a busy road on the Gold Coast on Monday afternoon.

Emergency services attended Oxley Drv in Biggera Waters at 4.40pm after the 70-year-old man tried to cross near the intersection of Harbourside Court.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The woman who was driving the hatchback that struck the man was not physically injured.

Olsen Ave was closed outside Harbour Town Shopping Centre while the crash was cleared.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
