Adam Magill has been fined for breaching bail after he was found at a hip new Brisbane night spot after a court-imposed cut-off time.

"I win. That's what I do": Magill speaks after making bail

High-profile criminal lawyer Adam Magill has been fined $1500 for breaching bail after “losing track of time” at a hip new Brisbane night spot.

Magill faced Brisbane Magistrates Court today pleading guilty to one count of breaching bail.

Magill, who is facing other charges, was found by police in Fortitude Valley’s Superfly Disco at 12.40am on Saturday.

Magill’s bail conditions prohibit him from being in the Valley’s safe night precinct after 11pm.

Police prosecutor Senior Sgt Mark Gorton said Magill had arrived at the club about 9pm meaning he didn’t have to scan his ID to enter.

“Which probably would have alerted us to his presence in the licensed premises area,” he said.

Mr Magill was fined more than $9000 in 2019 for breaching his bail five times.

Barrister Patrick Wilson today urged Magistrate Anne Thacker not to record a conviction.

Mr Wilson said that conviction was about three and half years and would become spent once it was five years old.

He said recording a conviction today could impact Magill’s “future potential professional career”.

The court heard Magill’s practising certificate had been cancelled however he was not struck off.

Mr Wilson said his client had been allowed to be in Superfly Disco until 11pm.

“His explanation for things is simply that he was socialising and lost track of time,” he said.

“It was brought to his attention, the issue of his bail, he looked at his clock, realised he’d overstayed what he was allowed to and immediately went home.

“He acknowledges the wrongdoing in the situation. He’s deeply embarrassed to be sitting in the dock here today”.

Magill was not arrested but instead went home from the club to comply with his conditions while police were making inquiries, the court heard.

Ms Thacker said Magill had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and had spent a few hours in custody since surrendering.

She fined him $1500 and did not record a conviction.
