A man has been charged with the domestic violence murder of his wife, following the discovery of her body at a Sunshine Coast resort.
Sunshine Coast detectives charged the Bli Bli man Jeffrey James Godfrey, 50, with murder after the body of a 46-year-old Burpengary woman was located inside a Pelican Waters Resort room about 3.35pm on Monday.
The woman has been identified as Vanessa Godfrey.
Ms Godfrey is legally married to her accused killer, however had been living at a separate address.
The pair have children and at least one grandchild together.
Ms Godfrey would refer to the youngster as “Nanny’s Bubba.”
Detectives revealed the pair were staying at the resort for a social function over the weekend and the grisly scene was discovered after staff carried out a welfare check on the room when the pair failed to check out Monday morning.
“When they undertook that, they found a female deceased on the bed in the room and there was another unconscious male in the room,” Detective Inspector Dave Drinnen said.
“It was physically obvious she was deceased, she was covered in blood and there were some wounds on her arm.”
Police will allege the wounds were caused by “some sort of weapon”, which was seized as part of the forensic investigation.
Inspector Drinnen said Queensland Ambulance officers were called to the scene by staff and found Mr Godfrey had regained consciousness upon their arrival.
The devastating news of another woman allegedly killed by her partner has been marked as another “tragic loss of life”
“This is a tragedy that it’s occurred on the Sunshine Coast here. We have a woman who has lost her life, we have a male person who has now been charged in relation to murder,” Inspector Drinnen said.
“There’s going to be a lot of mourning and there’s going to need to be a lot of support built around this family.
“This is a tragedy for us on the Sunshine Coast, we don’t want to see the loss of any life but when it’s happening in your own back yard.”
Detective Inspector Drinnen said police were interviewing the people who were with the couple over the weekend which will assist the investigation into what happened in the hours leading up to the alleged murder.
He said the couple were known to police but they have had “very limited dealings” with them in the past.
The husband and wife both have ties to the Sunshine Coast, despite now living separately elsewhere.
Jeffrey Godfrey’s matter of one count of murder – domestic violence offence was mentioned briefly in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.
Godfrey did not appear and duty lawyer David Crews asked for the matter to be adjourned to May 6 for committal mention, with Godfrey remanded into custody.
