A 39-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a suspected random home invasion at a unit complex in Brisbane’s inner-north this morning.

Emergency services were called to the address on Kedron Brook Rd in Wilston, near the trendy restaurant strip the suburb is known for, about 6.40am after a disturbance between two men.

Police discovered a 68-year-old man with serious facial and upper body injuries.

He was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition

It will be alleged the younger man broke into the unit complex, and assaulted the alleged victim when he was disturbed.

The 39-year-old man, from Mitchelton was arrested at the scene and has been charged with attempted murder, enter dwelling with intent by break (including while armed) and burglary.

He has been denied bail and is expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday.

Queensland Police Service acting regional duty officer for Brisbane region Mick Ackery this morning said the incident took place on the driveway.

Detectives spent the morning at the scene, interviewing neighbours.

Neighbour Carla Vandenblach said she heard fighting coming from a building nearby at about 6am.

“I heard some fighting, it was a man yelling and fighting with somebody else and there was an altercation,” she said.

“They were scuffling and fighting, they didn’t say anything but they were making noises.

“And then after a while police came and sectioned off the area. The man that started the argument got put in a paddy wagon … He was a bit aggravated. He wouldn’t calm down.”
