Crime and Corruption probe into Qld Police $240m Brisbane lease

The Crime and Corruption Commission has been brought in to investigate a $240 million lease signed by Queensland Police Service, described by some as the “worst deal” they’d ever seen.

A $240 million lease signed by Queensland Police Service for a building in Stones Corner has been referred to the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC).

The Courier-Mail broke the news of the whopping 15-year lease, with the option of an eight year extension, for a commercial building at Logan Rd back in September.

The building was leased to house a new police hub, but police sources labelled it the “worst deal” they’d ever seen.

The mega lease is worth almost five times the building’s $45 million price tag when it sold in 2021.

Queensland Police ordered an audit be conducted in August into how and why the lease was signed, with Commissioner Steve Gollschewski announcing on Tuesday he had referred the matter to the CCC.

“I have referred the matter of the Stones Corner building lease to the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC),” he said

“KordaMentha was appointed on August 19 to conduct an end-to-end external audit to examine the processes undertaken and reasons for entering the lease, which occurred prior to my appointment as Commissioner. The audit is not yet finalised.

“At this time, no disciplinary action has been taken against any QPS member in relation to the lease.

“As the matter is now with the CCC, it would be inappropriate to provide further comment.”

Queensland Police has repeatedly said all due diligence was conducted before the lease was signed.
