The family of a Sunshine Coast man who has been missing for more than seven months is calling for an inquest into his disappearance.

Personal trainer Jack McLennan, 27, was last seen in Ficks Crossing near Murgon in the South Burnett region, about 250km northwest of the Brisbane, on October 4, 2024.

A Coroners Court of Queensland spokesman confirmed that the matter was referred to it.

The Coroner may order an inquest if determine it was in the public interest or if there was significant doubt about the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

Mr McLennan’s parents’ call for answers comes after their private investigators and volunteers carried out their own search for months, but no signs of him were discovered.

His father, Ross McLennan, said he felt positive that the court had received the case.

“They’re an independent body, and the investigation can be furthered from the Coroner’s Court if they deem that necessary,” he said.

“I think it would be necessary to have an inquest due to the nature of what happened to our son and circumstances around it.”

Mr McLennan’s mother, Kellie Moody, wrote to the court about an inquest as she said this was what “any good mother would do”.

“I believe more questions need answering.” she said.

Faith Tklac, who has been assisting the parents with their probe, underwent a coronial inquest into the death of her son Jari Wise last year after he had been run over by his on-and-off partner’s car.

“My hope is that there isn’t too much of a backlog so that the coroner can see that Jack’s case needs a lot more attention,” she said.

“I can’t say that if an inquest is held that it will give Kellie and those she loves closure, but it will give the much needed answers that would be needed before they can even consider moving forward.

“To not have one would be absolutely ridiculous, but strangely that happens.

“I’m quite sure Jack’s loved ones know that there’s thousands of people that will support that decision if a push for it was needed, I know I’d be there right beside her if need be.”
