Confronting images have emerged of two crocodiles brutally maimed and killed in Far North Queensland, after a $10,000 reward was posted for information on the crimes.
The first death was discovered at Cow Bay in April, when a male crocodile was found beheaded.
Experts believe the crocodile was most likely killed by a human, potentially with a machete or a power tool.
The second carcass was found on the banks of the Daintree River a month later.
An anonymous phone call from the killer was made to a local tour operator confessing to killing the well-known female animal known as Lizzie.
Lizzie’s body showed signs she had been targeted and deliberately killed.
A massive reward has been offered to track down those people.
Crime Stoppers, together with Community Representation of Crocodiles, is offering $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and charge of those who killed the protected species.
Crime Stoppers Queensland CEO David Hansen hoped the reward would entice people to come forward.
The CROC team raised the funds for the reward in the hope of finding those responsible.
Anyone with information about these deaths can report information anonymously to Crime
Stoppers Queensland online or on 1800 333 000.
