Queensland Police have laid additional charges against 36-year-old Mount Morgan man Clinton Benjamin Leisha who was arrested after a vehicle accident at Bouldercombe on February 19 that left 70-year-old Dianne Herbener dead.

A statement from Queensland police outlined the additional charge of one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm.

This latest charge comes in addition to two counts of driver failure to remain at an incident, and one count each of driving an unregistered vehicle, driving an uninsured vehicle, and driving a vehicle with false registration plates.

Police allege the man was driving his Nissan Navara along Razorback Road when it collided head-on with a Mazda 323.

Both Dianne and her 73-year-old husband Peter Herbener - who was driving at the time - were transported to Rockhampton Hospital.

Dianne Herbener tragically succumbed to her injuries on February 24.

The head-on took place along a straight section of the road leading into a blind right-hand bend with continuous double white lines and a speed limit of 80km/hr.

At the time of the incident police alleged Mr Leisha was “observed assisting motorists to collect and place unknown personal belongings into a backpack before he fled the scene on foot towards Mount Morgan”.

Mr Leisha was located in Mount Morgan by police after a search.

Mr Herbener was released from hospital on March 13 and is now mourning the loss of his wife of 52 years.

Leisha was taken into police custody on February 19 where he was remanded until his appearance in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on May 1.
