A crime scene has been set up at a sleepy Northern NSW caravan park after the bodies of two men - “normal everyday people” - were discovered by police early this morning.
The men are yet to be formally identified but believed to have been aged in their 50s and 60s.
They were found in separate, neighbouring caravans.
Emergency services were called to the Tweed Ski Lodge Caravan Park on Chinderah Bay Dr at Chinderah, following reports a person was unresponsive about 12.30am.
On arrival, Tweed/Byron Police District officers found a body inside a caravan, before locating another inside a neighbouring caravan a short time later.
It’s understood neither of the men had any obvious injuries and that police are investigating the possibility that the deaths could be through misadventure.
Tweed Ski Lodge Caravan Park caters for permanent residents.
Trevor Lewer, a resident who works in maintenance at the park, said: “The two blokes knew each other, but they weren’t close.”
“One has been here since the floods,” he said.
“They were just were just normal everyday people
“Strange they’ve both gone at the same time. Nothing ever happens here.”
Resident Ian Sargent said a resident made the grim discovery before police were alerted.
He said the men found dead were named John and Dave, but did not provide surnames.
”I found out this morning that John on the corner there was dead,” he said.
“Dave is in Number 10, The lad in number 18 came around early this morning and said he went in to get a smoke off Dave and Dave was dead.”
Mr Sargent claimed “Dave” was seen suffering multiple seizures around the caravan park.
A crime scene has been established and an investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The bodies of the two men were taken away this morning as forensics officers combed the park to determine what happened.
