Almost 400 teens attended an out-of-control party at Logan that ended in six revellers, including one as young as 12, being treated by paramedics.
It is understood the teens were celebrating the end of the school year when police were called to a home on Sungold Rd, Chambers Flat, about 11pm on Friday.
Six children aged 12 to 18 – five of them girls – were treated by paramedics.
Among them was a 12-year-old girl who was believed to be heavily intoxicated, while another girl had a serious eye injury.
Senior paramedic Jane James said two paramedics initially responded but called for backup – including police – soon after they arrived.
It is understood first responders were pelted with rocks.
“A fight broke out in front of (paramedics) and they had to retreat from scene and wait for (Queensland Police Service) to arrive,” Ms James said on Saturday.
“Once QPS arrived we went in together – it was a hectic scene.”
Ms James said five people were taken to hospital with “various ailments”, but that a sixth person who had “been assaulted” was also later taken to hospital.
“We had one person who had reportedly been assaulted – the rest were alcohol and drug-related ailments,” she said. “It is very concerning for a 12-year-old to be at such a large house party and potentially having consumed alcohol or drugs.”
Ms James said the safety of paramedics was “paramount”.
“It is confronting; people can get out of control, turn on our paramedics as we have seen in the past – retreating is their only option,” she said.
Asked whether paramedics were often forced to retreat, Ms James said: “Unfortunately it does happen more often than we would like.
“We often wait for QPS to arrive. As we are coming to the end of the school year and Schoolies we just need to be mindful of the safety of our officers.”
It is understood six ambulances were tied up for several hours responding to intoxicated minors.
Police are also believed to be investigating an allegation of sexual assault.
A police spokesman said a 19-year-old Burpengary man was issued with an infringement notice in relation to trespassing and public nuisance.
Teens who attended the party were cleaning up on Saturday morning when The Courier-Mail visited the site.
“The kids were so drunk,” one young reveller said.
Another girl said the party was supposed to be for close friends only, but “it got out of hand”.
A neighbour, who asked not to be identified, said the party was “loud and wild”.
