The young woman found dead in a Caboolture street with gunshot wounds just days before Christmas has been mourned as “fierce loyal” and “unwavering compassionate”.
Chloe Jade “C.J.” Mason, 23, was allegedly chased by two men and shot dead on Railway Parade in Caboolture shortly after midnight on December 22.
Brothers Codye Thomson, 29, and Kaine Thomson-Gleeson, 32, have been charged with her murder.
Her family and friends are gathering at St Mary’s Anglican Church in Redcliffe to offer their final farewells – some already offering condolences and remembering her “cheeky smile and contagious laugh” through the toughest times.
“It’s never going to be the same without her,” her sister Dani Mason said.
Sobs could be heard as an image slide show of Ms Mason was played for the procession accompanied by Dani and Lizzy’s ‘Dancing in the Sky’.
The funeral service officiant described Ms Mason as being much loved.
“We can give thanks today for Chloe’s life,” she said.
The officiant then read a statement from Mason’s younger brother, who did not attend the service.
“Chloe was my big sister,” read the officiant
“She was very protective of me even though she was only a year older than me.
“I can’t believe I will never hear her voice or laugh again, I love you Chloe and I miss you so much.”
Ms Mason’s obituary described her having “brought light and laughter into the lives of everyone she encountered”.
“Throughout her life, Chloe was known for her fierce loyalty and her readiness to defend those who were being treated poorly,” it read.
“Whether through a kind word or a helping hand, she made it her mission to uplift others and create a sense of belonging wherever she went.”
