The bus driver charged over the horror CBD crash that killed Tia Cameron has been pressed by a magistrate for a decision on whether he will plead guilty or not guilty.
Lindsay Francis Selby, 71, was charged with driving without due care and attention causing death last June over the March 8, 2024, bus crash that killed Ms Cameron, 18.
It’s alleged Ms Cameron was pinned against the Anzac Square arcade building in Brisbane City after the council bus driven by Selby mounted the footpath just after 5pm.
Selby made no appearance in court on Tuesday but his lawyer Claire McGee indicated Selby may enter a plea on his next court date.
Ms McGee said they were still awaiting further legal advice from barrister Saul Holt, who was briefed in the matter, about whether to consider taking the matter to hearing.
Magistrate Ross Mack remarked that there was “lots of other counsel” available.
“As much as everyone enjoys Mr Holt, if he’s not available he’s not available.”
Ms McGee said Mr Holt had already been briefed after the remaining evidence – including the forensic crash report – was disclosed to the defence on March 26.
She said defence may seek to obtain their own expert report, but noted the bus was no longer available for inspection as it had been “returned to operations”.
Mr Mack told Ms McGee she should have commenced that process sooner, but granted a three week adjournment to May 14.
“But on that date it will be set for hearing or sentence,” he said.
“(The matter) started in June last year and I don’t want to see an anniversary.”
