A Brisbane teacher has been charged with grooming multiple children in another state.

Jayden Robert Carey, 30, was charged with 25 offences against children – including nine counts of grooming – this week after police allegedly uncovered incriminating images on his devices.

The Brighton resident had allegedly solicited the photos from multiple children in Tasmania and transferred them money from his bank account.

Brisbane Magistrates Court heard at Carey’s bail application on Thursday that he was dismissed from his employment as a teacher on Wednesday after the allegations came to light.

Carey allegedly made admissions to police in a recorded interview and had identified “all the children” he allegedly groomed, the court heard.

Acting Magistrate Nigel Rees said there was a strong case against Carey.

Legal aid duty lawyer Lana Millar submitted that strict bail conditions – such as having no contact with children – could appropriately ameliorate any risks Carey posed to the community.

She said her client had no criminal history.

Mr Rees said the allegations were “very serious”, however, and that he was satisfied Carey posed an unacceptable risk of committing further offences.

He denied Carey’s application for bail and adjourned the matter for mention on July 14.

Carey is charged with six counts of grooming children under 16 by facilitating procurement of a child to engage in a sexual act, three counts of grooming children under 12 by facilitating procurement of a child to engage in a sexual act (child or fictitious), nine counts of using the internet to procure children under 16, three counts of using the internet to procure children under 12, and one count each of possessing child exploitation material, using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material, attempting to use a carriage service to solicit child abuse material, and possessing tainted property.

According to the Queensland Register of Teachers, Carey’s provisional registration was suspended this morning.
