A Brisbane neurosurgeon has faced court accused of disclosing confidential information, after being charged by police working alongside the Crime and Corruption Commission.

Alexander Josiah Koefman, 44, faced Brisbane’s Arrest Court on Tuesday charged with one count of disclosing confidential documents.

According to court documents, it will be alleged Koefman disclosed the existence of a confidential document to another person at Brisbane’s CBD on December 23, 2023.

The Bulimba resident was issued a notice to appear in court after being charged by a sergeant of the police’s CCC crime unit on December 10 last year, court documents reveal.

Alexander Josiah Koefman leaves Brisbane Arrest Court on January 14, 2025.

Koefman, from Tasmania, appeared in person at court and was represented by lawyer Tom Gardiner from Fisher Dore.

Mr Gardiner requested the matter be adjourned to February 12, and Koefman was granted bail on his own undertaking.

Koefman stayed inside the court building for the next seven hours in an attempt to avoid media, before being asked to leave by security when the court closed at 4.30pm.

According to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) website, Koefman currently has no restrictions placed on his registration and practices primarily at Greenslopes.
