Police are investigating after a man was stabbed in the back at his home in the Brisbane suburb of St Lucia overnight.

Police are investigating after a man told police he was stabbed in the back by a stranger inside his Brisbane home overnight.

Emergency services were called to the 47-year-old’s St Lucia home just after 1am Monday, with reports a person broke into his home and stabbed him in the back.

It’s understood the man was woken to noises in his Prospect Tce home and was stabbed when he went to investigate.

The Queensland Ambulance Service said the man was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition.

No one has been charged over the incident.

Police continue to investigate and appeal for anyone with information to come forward.
