Queensland’s crime rate has increased 11.2 per cent in the past year, with property-related offences surging and juvenile offenders increasing in shocking new data.

Queensland Police Service figures released on Monday show there were 596,702 offences in 2022-23, compared to 525,652 the previous year, with the rate now 11,088.8 offences per 100,000 people.

The figures show the rate of break-ins increased 20 per cent in 2022-23 with the rate now 957.9 per 100,000 people, after more than 51,000 break-in offences.

The rate of car theft also increased 15.9 per cent, with 378.7 per 100,000 people, after 20,378 offences were recorded.

The number of juvenile offenders in Queensland has also gone up, with 11,191 unique young criminals in the state.

That number has risen 5.2 per cent compared to the previous year, with the number of female offenders going up 10.3 per cent.

According to the data, juveniles between 10 and 17 years old committed 37,775 property offences, including 10,873 break-ins and 7687 car thefts – more than any other age group.

Boys committed 28,697 of those property offences, 463 sexual offences, 2217 assaults and 935 robberies.

The figures also show boys committed a shocking 11 murders in 2022-23 – the second highest behind men in their 30s (13), and men between 18 and 24 years old (13).

Juveniles were also proceeded against for property offences more than any other age.

The two most prevalent ages of property offenders were 15 and 16 years old.
