A 13-year-old boy – allegedly brandishing a replica firearm and butter knife – has been arrested following a reported confrontation with a former cage fighter at Beaudesert on Sunday.

Police allege the boy threatened a man, 38, during an argument near a Williams St business shortly before 10am.

The boy was arrested a short time later at a nearby Hungry Jack’s on Brisbane Street.

The 38-year-old man has since been identified by 9 News as former cage fighter and martial arts instructor Harley Osgood.

Mr Osgood said he was getting a haircut at a nearby business prior to the altercation with the boy.

“I let him know it [the replica gun] wasn’t a real weapon … The knife though was real, which was a little bit more concerning,” he said.

“He took off when he realised his knife and fake gun weren’t going to do anything.

“There was still a few people shopping inside that had no idea what was happening.

“I don’t consider myself brave in any way but when something needs to be taken care of I guess that I’ve got the skill set to do so.”

Mr Osgood, who now works as a senior instructor at Black Dragon Kai Jimboomba, said there needed to be “consequences” for any teen who engages in this kind of behaviour.

“I don’t believe it should be a punishment that would ruin the rest of his life but there needs to be consequences for these kinds of actions,” he said.

Mr Osgood has a number of martial arts ranks including: 4th Khan - Muay Thai - Kru (Advanced Trainer); 3rd Degree Black Belt - Modern Martial Arts – Renshi; 1st Degree Black Belt - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu; and Black Belt - Freestyle Tae Kwon Do, according to his Black Dragon Kai profile.

He was not injured in the incident.
