Police have ruled the grim discovery of body in a burnt-out car in Bundaberg overnight as non-suspicious, after initially establishing a crime scene and communications post on-site Tuesday night.
Bundaberg police responded to a grass fire on vacant land at Johnson Street at west Bundaberg about 8:20pm when the body was discovered inside the burning vehicle, a white sedan with no number plates and which was left almost unrecognisable from the blaze.
The car had come to rest in the middle of a large area of grassland near Sugarland Plaza and just past the local cemetery, pointed away from Johnson St and about 150m off it.
It was secluded by surrounding trees, many of which had caught on fire when the blaze ignited and burnt out about 50m by 20m of the surrounding grassland, which is in the middle of a mostly residential area of the city.
The smell of burning vegetation was still strong on Wednesday morning, where police continued to search the area and stop access to the scene.
A statement released about 10am revealed police had determined the sudden death was non-suspicious.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
