A woman has been charged with stealing more than $150,000 from her own Australia Post business, a court has heard.

Yi Zhou, of Thornlands, was arrested on Friday and held in custody overnight.

Zhou faces one count of stealing property of a value exceeding $5000 and possessing tainted property.

Her case was mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning.

The court heard Zhou, who did not appear in court, is the licensee of Australia Post at Victoria Point.

It was from there that more than $150,000 was allegedly stolen by Zhou, the court heard.

Her barrister Chris Wilson applied for bail saying police had concerns she may flee because she is a Chinese national and her passport could not be located.

Mr Wilson said Zhou’s passport was with a friend currently in Adelaide but she would be returning on Sunday.

The court heard Zhou’s home was currently subject to foreclosure.

Magistrate Belinda Merrin granted bail on the condition her passport first be surrendered to the court, she reports weekly to police, she doesn’t go to Australia Post at Victoria Point or contact its employees and she avoids any international airport.

The matter was adjourned to September 27.
