A 62-year-old man who died after he was hit by a car on a Coast road last year called triple-0 before he was allegedly murdered by a woman he knew, police will allege.

Stephen John Berka died at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital after he was hit by a car on Stringybark Rd in the early hours of May 16, last year.

Ashleigh Jayde Gyorosi, 29, faced Maroochydore Magistrates Court via video link on Wednesday on a charge of unlawfully stalking Mr Berka while possessing a weapon.

Senior prosecutor Tegan Smith told the court that police would be offering no evidence to the charge of unlawful stalking, instead substituting it with a murder charge.

Nambour Forensic Crash Unit officer Paul Benton said audio and video recordings from nearby houses and a business led to the stalking charge being upgraded to murder.

Senior Constable Benton said police would allege Ms Gyorosi and Mr Berka had been involved in an argument before he was allegedly killed.

"They both left a unit in Goshawk Boulevard, they've walked through the adjoining shopping centre and onto Stringybark Drive where the deceased has made a triple-0 phone call in relation to being followed by a person with a knife," he said.

"Shortly after he was struck by a vehicle on Stringybark Rd and later died from injuries."

Senior Constable Brenton said Ms Gyorosi wasn't the driver of the car, but was allegedly the person following Mr Berka with a knife.

"They were acquaintances, they were very well known to each other," he said.

He said it was unclear how Mr Berka came to be in the path of the car.

Ms Smith said a brief of evidence for the murder charge was nearly complete.

An emotional Ms Gyorosi cried in court and said she didn't understand why she was being charged.

"This is ridiculous your honour I don't even understand why this is happening," she said.

"Now they are charging me with murder. It's my best friend."

Defence lawyer Jacob Pruden had planned to apply for Ms Gyorosi's bail for the stalking charge before it was upgraded.

Magistrate Maxine Baldwin said Ms Gyorosi wouldn't be able to apply for bail after having her charges changed.

She adjourned the matters until May 21 so a brief of evidence could be prepared.
