The bikie “brotherhood” has taken another blow after a ninth alleged member of the Mongols gang was charged with the murder of infamous bikie enforcer Shane Bowden.

South-Eastern Police Regional Crime Coordinator, Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith said police were continuing to dismantle the “so-called brotherhood and code of silence” surrounding the death of Shane.
“This was a calculated and premeditated act with many people involved in varying aspects of the execution of Shane,” he said.

“There is no loyalty when you are facing a significant time behind bars away from your family and friends.

“This is the time to speak up and take advantage of the indemnity on offer and the $250,000 reward.

“I can assure the community that we will continue to identify and arrest all of those involved in this murder, no matter how long it takes, and bring each and every one of them before the courts.”

The most recent charge was made by detectives from the Gold Coast District, Crime and Intelligence Command, including Homicide and the Organised Crime Gangs Group and other specialised police as part of Operation Sierra Arch, which commenced after Bowden was shot and killed in the driveway of his Pimpama home after midnight on October 12, 2020.

Police continue to seek community assistance for any additional information which may assist the investigation and provide further closure for Mr Bowden’s family.

Murphy did not appear in person at a brief mention in Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning and was unable to apply for bail due to the serious nature of his charges.

Solicitor Mollie Roper, who represented Murphy on behalf of Legal Aid, sought a three week adjournment.

He will appear alongside his eight co-accused for a committal callover on August 2.

Eight members of the Brisbane West Mongols bikie gang were arrested at the weekend and had their cases briefly mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday.
