An accused bikie affiliate allegedly filmed a disturbing “torture video” during a “despicable and perverse” Logan home invasion involving six alleged Bandidos associates.

The six men allegedly committed two Logan home invasions over the span of one night on July 6 to 7, 2022 – the first of which involved a pregnant woman, a Brisbane court has heard.

Brisbane Magistrates Court heard the second home invasion allegedly culminated in the torture and attempted rape of a man with use of a tomahawk.

Kauri Bedggood, 24, and Taylor Kahurangi Delamere, 24, each made applications for bail on Tuesday afternoon for serious organised crime offences including armed robbery in company, torture, and attempting to commit rape.

Their applications followed a committal hearing on Monday alongside co-accused Beau Dean Damien Anderson, Zorro Fonoti, Waylon John Nga Rongoa Fiaii and Montell Te Kooti Hurinui Newman, who are facing the same charges.

Prosecutor Stephen Muir told the court during Bedggood’s bail application that the first alleged home invasion at Logan Central had involved a pregnant woman.

He said second home invasion, in Marsden, escalated from the first and allegedly involved “despicable and perverse offending” including the attempted rape of a man “by use of a tomahawk”.

Mr Muir said a “torture video” found on Bedggood’s phone showed a “terrified” male complainant as a “distinctive bladed weapon” was held to his throat.

He said the video put Bedggood at the “centre” of “that most heinous aspect” of the allegations.

Defence lawyer Jarrod Bell clarified that the video showed a knife directed towards the complainant, but not held to his throat.

The court heard Bedggood – the only one of the accused still remanded in custody – had allegedly committed the offences while on bail for another robbery.

He had been sentenced to 12 months probation for that offence in 2023, the court heard.

Mr Bell submitted that his client had already spent nearly two-and-a-half years remanded in custody, and that strict bail conditions could mitigate any risks he posed of reoffending.

He said his client made no admissions in relation to allegations of gang affiliation, but noted the gang that Bedggood was alleged to be a part of had since disbanded – which he said reduced his risk of reoffending.

Mr Bell said there may also be some grounds to exclude evidence relating to the alleged gang affiliation going before a jury.

Magistrate Lewis Shilito noted the police warrant to obtain relevant CCTV footage may not have been properly executed, but said this had not been intentional.

Mr Muir said, regardless of that evidence, it was still alleged that upon the men’s arrival at the second home invasion, one of them “made it explicit” that they were “acting on behalf of the Logan City Bandidos”.

Mr Shilito granted Bedggood bail on conditions including not contacting his co-accused or witnesses, not using any drugs or travelling without permission, and that he obtain a mental health care plan.

Bedggood’s successful application followed co-accused Taylor Kahurangi Delamere’s application the same afternoon for a variation to his bail conditions.

Defence barrister Nicholas Brown said Delamere’s tracking device condition was causing issues with his work as a labourer and landscaper.

Delamere could not access council sites and sometimes had to leave work early to charge the tracker, Mr Brown explained.

He said Delamere, who lives at Pimpama, had demonstrated his ability to comply with bail over the last two-and-a-half years.

Mr Shilito granted the application to remove the tracking device condition, vary Delamere’s bail address, and reduced his reporting to twice a week.

Both Bedggood and Delamere were committed to stand trial at a date to be set on 13 charges including serious organised crime offences of armed robbery in company (wounded/used personal violence, torture, attempt to commit rape, and entering a dwelling and committing an indictable offence.

Two co-accused, Waylon John Nga Rongoa Fiaii and Montell Te Kooti Hurinui Newman, have already been committed for trial.
