Graffiti referencing slain Gold Coast teen Jack Beasley has been found in a stolen abandoned car, angering his family and police.
The words “#JBK” and “Jack Beasly (sic) killers” were scrawled on the dash of the Land Rover which was found in bushland at Coomera at the weekend.
Gold Coast police superintendent Peter Miles slammed the thieves’ callousness.
“There’s no empathy when you’re writing stuff like that,” he told Seven News.
“There’s no care or forethought about what hurt you could cause.
“You wonder about the IQ of these people who would do something like that. It’s extremely hurtful, not for just the Beasley family but the wider community as well, and shows complete disrespect.”.
Jack’s father said the graffiti was “absolutely disgusting, heartbreaking and a kick in the guts.”
Jack, 17, was stabbed to death outside a Surfers Paradise convenience store in December 2019.
His teenage killer was jailed for 10 years for manslaughter.
Jack’s parents, Brett and Belinda, set up the Jack Beasley Foundation in his honour, successfully lobbying the state government to introduce new laws giving police powers to use metal detectors to scan people in safe night precincts and on public transport across Queensland.
The laws have recently been widened to give police the powers to conduct “wanding” operations at shopping centres.
