Alleged bikies, drugs, cash and guns: Cops mega blitz

A bikie lair hidden in an underground bunker has been uncovered by police near Tweed Heads as part of a major border blitz on outlaw motorcycle gangs and organised crime groups.

The secret Mongols bikie gang den, accessed by a trap door and complete with a bar with price list, was found at a home at Bilambil Heights occupied by a patched member.

Police say they also found Mongols paraphernalia and cannabis inside.

The makeshift clubhouse was discovered as part of a massive blitz on bikies and organised crime gangs by Queensland and NSW police and the Australian Federal Police.

Officers used intelligence gathered at secret crime hearings to launch the two-week crackdown, code named Operation Viking, which led to the seizure of more than $4.5 million worth of drugs, over $165,000 in cash, seven guns including a home-made pistol and luxury cars and watches.

More than 150 Queensland police took part in the operation, joining NSW and AFP colleagues in conducting more than 30 raids in which 54 people were arrested on more than 180 charges.

“And that is just the beginning,” Queensland Police Service Assistant Commissioner Katherine Innes said.

“Investigations are continuing and there’ll be more arrests that will come out of this.

“Criminals don’t care about the border here in northern NSW/southeastern Queensland, and neither do the police.

“These results should serve as a reminder to anyone involved in organised crime in this area that we will be continuing this fight into the future.”

NSW police state crime commander, Acting Assistant Commissioner Jason Weinstein, said northern NSW was a bikie hotspot, home to estimated 40 per cent of the state’s outlaw motorcycle gang members.

He said the Pacific Highway between Sydney and southeast Queensland was a major drug corridor.

“The problem is quite large,” he said.

“I can tell you (bikies) very clearly … we will continue to now come after you.

“We know where you are hiding your assets, we know where you are hiding your drugs.”
