Murder, Lies & Alibis: the Phillip Vasyli murder

The mistress of slain Sydney podiatrist Phillip Vasyli has broken her silence to reveal she fears for her life since Mr Vasyli’s wife Donna launched a campaign of harassment and death threats against her, beginning in the lead-up to Mr Vasyli’s murder.

Secret audio files left on the voicemail of Sunnie Heng’s mobile phone detail Mrs Vasyli threatening her with abusive language and a slew of racial slurs.

Ms Heng began an affair with Mr Vasyli in 2012 and claims she was pregnant with his child when the multi-millionaire was found murdered in his Bahamas home in March, 2015.

“You’re busted sl--, you f---ing house-wrecking dirty little f---ing b-----. You’re in f---ing deep sh-- you little slant-eyed sl--,” Mrs Vasyli can be heard saying on the tapes, which will be broadcast for the first time publicly in Channel 9 documentary Murder, Lies & Alibis.

“I’ve got the big boys on to you. You’re dead! You can get f---ed you little Chinese s---” Mrs Vasyli can be heard saying, as well as telling Ms Heng that her husband “hates Asians”.

In another recording, Mrs Vasyli warns she will be paying Ms Heng a visit at her San Francisco home, “just to make sure things are absolutely clear with you”.

Mrs Vasyli is currently on bail in the Bahamas awaiting a retrial for the 2015 murder of her husband of 30 years.

In October 2015, she was found guilty of the murder and sentenced to 20 years but on appeal the conviction was quashed and a new trial ordered.

In a rare instance, she has been given leave to pursue her fight against a retrial at London’s Privy Council, the Commonwealth’s highest court.

Mrs Vaslyi, originally from Liverpool in Sydney’s southwest, has two adult children with her late husband.

Bodyguard Wauriman Borges said he was hired to help protect Ms Heng from Mrs Vasyli.

“I’m terrified of her,” said Ms Heng, who moved homes out of concern for her safety.

“When Phil was alive I felt like he could still protect me. He would tell me not to worry but I still worry. I worry a lot, and how I go about every day just kind of under the radar.”

After humble beginnings in Sydney’s western suburbs, Mr Vasyli founded three specialty sports podiatry clinics in Sydney during the 1980s before inventing the Orthaheel in 1991 and building a multimillion-dollar international empire under his company Vasyli International, now called Vionic Group.

In the early noughties the Vasylis relocated to the exclusive gated community at Old Fort Bay in the Bahamas.

Mr Vasyli was stabbed in the chest while at home on March 23, 2015.

His body was found by a worker at 8am the following morning, lying in a pool of blood in his dining room.

In a separate instance, prior to the murder, a former employee and friend of Mr Vasyli, Ceri Howells, claims he saw Mrs Vasyli come at her husband with a knife.

“She just like had it in her hand, you know like, kind of like in a back off me kind of way, like ‘leave me alone’,” said Mr Howells.

Mr Howells said Mr Vasyli was able to disarm his wife by twisting her arm and then locked himself in a room to get away from her.

Murder, Lies & Alibis airs 9pm, Monday, 4 February on Nine
