THE results are in, and this year's list of the most popular Australians on social media are as diverse as their resumes.

As Twitter expands its Australian operations, so too does it expand its popularity.

Three million Aussies use accounts on Twitter, and while it's a far cry from the 12-million Aussies who use Facebook, the last year has seen Twitter gain international consumers.

"We are seeing very healthy growth and we feel very good about Australia as a market," Twitter's head of government, news and social innovation Adam Sharp told Mumbrella earlier this year.
