A woman has been charged after allegedly throwing a dog off a cliff.
The 32-year-old was arrested on Friday more than a year after the alleged crime took place after an “extensive investigation” by New South Wales Police.
The dog was discovered badly injured by a bushwalker on Sunday, January 22 who heard it yelping near Bissell Drive at Mount Ousley, near Wollongong.
The man located the dog, believed to be an Australian bulldog, and an upside-down kennel at the base of a cliff.
The dog appeared to be emaciated and in poor health, police said.
Police will allege that the dog and the kennel had been thrown off the cliff in the middle of the night.
Officers conducted a rescue operation to retrieve the dog and it was taken to a vet where it was euthanised due to poor health and serious injuries.
A woman was arrested at a home in Horsley about 11am on Friday, police said.
She was taken to Wollongong Police Station where she was charged with torture, beat etc, and cause death of animal.
She was given bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on 14 May 2024.
