Constant storms hitting Queensland are creating the perfect conditions for an invasion of unwanted houseguests.

Homeowners are being urged to keep an eye out as snake catchers have reporting an increase in calls to collect the creatures, which are being found inside homes.

Owner of South East Reptile Relocations, Mr Thorburn said historically there is an increase in snake activity this time of year, however, the storms are a big contributor to their displacement as snakes familiarise themselves with their environment.

“The recent storms we’ve had on the Gold Coast has really brought them out as well. You get all the frog eating species out and about at the moment, eating frogs as well,” he said.

Snake catchers have been busy removing the unwanted reptiles, which include eastern browns and red-bellied blacks found inside barbecues, outside lounges and even lawnmowers.

With many snakes searching for a new homes after being displaced by the storms, Mr Thorburn said if you spot one where it shouldn’t be, call in a professional to relocate the snake for you.

“The most important thing is don’t take your eyes off the snake because it makes a massive difference whether we can successfully find a snake for you”.

Mr Thorburn also said it was important to keep a safe distance and to not agitate the snake.

“Don’t put yourself in danger,” he said.
