Otter almost kills boy in ‘crazed attack’

A crazed otter has reportedly almost drowned a boy in a ‘crazed attack’ at a popular marina.

Crazed otter menaces family

A crazed otter is seen menacing a US family at a marina moments after it nearly drowned a boy it dragged off a dock, a shocking new video revealed.

The footage was taken last month, just after the twisted critter targeted a mom and her young son, according to KIRO 7 News in Seattle.

The youngster narrowly survived being dragged underwater by the rampaging river otter — which also attacked the boy’s horrified mom during a morning walk, authorities said.

The youngster was with his mother on a dock at Bremerton Marina in Kitsap County the morning of Sept. 12 when the otter pounced, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

None of the videos that KIRO 7 received from the Port of Bremerton show the actual attack happening, but in one clip, the terrified mom and son can be seen running down the dock — with the otter in hot pursuit moments later.

The group appeared to calm down before leaving the area, the clip showed.

Once they get up the exit ramps, the brazen otter hops back on the dock.

Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife officials said that in most cases, otters tend to shy away from people, KIRO 7 reported.

The boy — who has not been identified publicly — was taken to the hospital to be treated for bites and scratches.

Wildlife officials said they trapped and killed an otter in the area and were testing it for rabies.

The stunning marina attack came just days after a woman in Malaysia was left bloody and crying after she was mauled by eight otters during a jog.

The woman was left crying in a pool of her own blood after getting savaged by a gang of otters.

The unidentified victim had reportedly been jogging through Tanjung Aru Recreation Park in Sabah when she was beset upon.

Accompanying footage shows the water weasel octet fleeing the scene after the attack.

Meanwhile, the woman, who was wearing dark pink running tights and a black shirt, is pictured sitting on the curb in tears with blood visible on her arms and head and several gouges in her legs.

The victim was transported to a hospital, while a wildlife team was dispatched to the park to keep tabs on the otters.

Investigations found that the beasts — which reportedly live nearby — had entered the park to forage for food in the pond, according to Sabah Wildlife Department Director Roland Oliver Niun.

He explained that the otters had visited the park before without incident and that the attack was likely due to a “change in behaviour” spurred by visitors feeding them.

To prevent future attacks, wildlife officials plan to reinforce the fence around the park and monitor the area to ensure none of the critters break in.

“We also ask the park manager to report if there is an otter sighting after the repairs are done,” said Niun.

Meanwhile, the public has been urged to avoid going near the fences or interacting with wildlife to mitigate the possibility of attacks.

That might seem overzealous, but this isn’t the first time someone in Southeast Asia has been beset by otters — which are in the same family as honey badgers and wolverines.

In 2021, a Singapore resident was hospitalised after getting accosted by a gang of the ferocious water frolickers, which reportedly bit him 26 times in 10 seconds.“I actually thought I was going to die – they were going to kill me,” devastated victim Graham George Spencer recalled.
