ARE you ready to discover the future of home entertainment for less than $400?
Well, the Nvidia SHIELD might just be the product you have been waiting for.
Driven by Android TV, the 4K Ultra HD ready product is the most powerful set-top-box ever made.
What makes the SHIELD so powerful is its Tegra X1 processor, which “delivers up to 25 times the performance of popular streaming devices”.
The device offers a genuine home theatre experience with its vibrant 10-bit colour display, Dolby 7.1 surround sound and apps including Google Play, Netflix and YouTube.
“Say “Oscar-winning movies” or “launch Netflix” and let Google’s advanced voice commands do the work for you,” Nvidia wrote on its website.
“Get personalised recommendations on your home screen. Even cast a show or pictures to your TV from your PC, Android, or iOS device with built-in Google Cast.”
Even more impressive, is the gaming capabilities of the device.
While the system doesn’t have the same pull with game developers as Xbox or PlayStation, there are still around 200 Android titles that can played with NVIDIA’s Grid cloud gaming service.
A wireless game controller — similar in design to the Xbox handset — comes included in the package and allows for the attachment of a headset so your housemates don’t have to hear you playing games.
A single-handed remote can also be purchased as an extra.
The standard model of the SHIELD comes with 16 GB of storage and will set you back just under $AU260, while the pro model offers and 500 GB of storage and retails for $AU391.
Whether or not the device will be a success is yet to be seen, but the technology is impressive regardless.
