CES 2023: LG debuts Zero Connect TV with cordless technology

One of the world’s biggest TV manufacturers has come up with a nifty device that could just solve a huge living room frustration.

It’s the bugbear of TV owners everywhere – all the multiple cords that drizzle out from the back of the unit trailing and entangling themselves all over the floor.

It’s even worse for those with TVs elevated off the ground or attached to the wall which have the sleek effect ruined by wires.

But one huge TV manufacturer says it has a game changer of a device that will mean wire worries are a thing of the past – and it won’t affect sound or picture quality.

It’ll cost you a pretty penny though.

South Korean powerhouse LG has debuted its “Zero Connect” box at the giant CES electronics show in Las Vegas which is being held from January 5-8.

It hopes the cordless innovation will put its range of TVs ahead of arch rival Samsung on customer wish lists.

The Zero Connect box connects with LG’s flagship Signature M3 TVs which come in 77 inch, 83 inch and 97 inch versions.

LG has stated it chose these TVs for the initial roll out of the Zero Connect boxes as their sheer size means they are a huge feature in living rooms often standing off the ground on legs with all the cords to various set top boxes and gaming systems spoiling the otherwise streamlined effect.

On the new Signature M3, the only cord trailing from the TV will be the one to the plug socket – and often that can be more discreetly hidden behind a leg.

All the other wires connect that would go into the set now go into the black Zero Connect box. It contains ports for common HDMI devices like consoles and set top boxes as well as a USB ports and for sound bars and the like.

Cords connected, users then move the top of the box towards the TV.

The box and all the wires can then be squirrelled away somewhere more subtle. So long as it’s around 10 metres or so from the TV in clear view.

But LG has said an algorithm in the box will mean a temporary barrier between it and the TV, such as person getting up to put on a cuppa or a roaming pet, shouldn’t affect things.

LG reckons the box will deliver reliable video and audio transmission to the television with 4K 120 Hz and with no degradation to quality.

The LG Signature M3 with Zero Connect box should be available in Australia later this year. Prices have not yet been released but given it’s connected only to the top of the range LG TVs, it certainly won’t be cheap.

But LG stressed to news.com.au that the cordless technology will likely filter down to more value for money models in the coming years.

At CES LG also showed off its new model G3 television with, it claims, 70 per cent brighter screen above the previous G2.

Samsung has also released its TV range for CES. It too has promised industry beating brightness for its Neo OLED range as well as a thinner profile.
