NINTIES gamers are buzzing about the potential of a Nintendo 64 classic console being released by the Japanese game maker.
Nintendo released its new portable Switch console earlier this year but a new set of patents filed by the company has fans believing they might also be getting a miniaturised re-release of the once hugely popular 64 console which hosted games like Super Mario Kart, Banjo-Kazooie, Zelda and GoldenEye.
Nintendo’s recently started producing miniaturised, less expensive versions of its original consoles. In September, it will begin selling a miniature version of its Super NES classic with 21 pre-installed classic games. And the latest patents have caused some to suspect the Nintendo 64 could be next.
The company filed four trademarks related to its console controllers with the European Union Intellectual Property Office on July 18, which included the highly recognisable controller from its beloved 1996 console. The other patent images were for a NES, SNES, and Nintendo Switch controller.
Below is the 2D image which depicts the Nintendo 64 controller.
Nintendo hasn’t announced anything but reports based on the patents have prompted plenty of discussion online. In fact, a Nintendo of America representative told Polygon: “We have nothing to announce on this topic.”
Nonetheless, some gamers are excited by the potential of a mini Nintendo 64 while others have expressed reservations about a company that increasingly traffics in nostalgia.

They are just doing what they do best. Selling you the same thing 10 times that is.

Perhaps they are making controllers for the virtual console (or what ever they plan on nameing the new service).

People are saying it's for N64 classic, when it could just as easily be retro controllers for the Switch.
