POPULAR card combat game Hearthstone, published by Blizzard, is set to go off with a boom on August 8 when its new expansion drops.
Entitled The Boomsday Project, the Mad Scientist-themed expansion revolves around Dr Boom unleashing “his delightfully irresponsible experiments upon players in the form of 135 zany cards and a slew of mischievous new gameplay mechanics,” according to the developers.
Players can expect mechanical warriors, fantasy-science, and the slightly wacky atmosphere and tone which has become a staple of the World of Warcraft-inspired game.
The developers have also announced the new ‘Magnetic’ element will be present, allowing players to combine some of the mechanical combatants into “massive mechanical monstrosities, or play them as a stand-alone minion”.
The new cards and mechanics are sure to pique the interest of dedicated and casual players alike, so Blizzard will be running an official Card Reveal lifestream on the Hearthstone Twitch channel at 3am on Tuesday, July 24, with video-on-demand coming shortly after the stream conclusion — helpful for folks who aren’t awake at 3am on a work night!
